China announced this Sunday Restrictive measures against five North American companies of the defense sector in response to Washington’s arms sales to Taipei and US sanctions on Chinese companies and individuals.
These sanctions will freeze any property the companies have in China, in addition to prohibiting Chinese organizations and individuals from doing business with these entities, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The targeted companies are BAE Systems Land and Armament, Alliant Techsystems Operation, AeroVironment, ViaSat and Data Link Solutions.
The ministry further stated that US measures have harmed China’s sovereignty and security interestsundermined peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and violated the rights and interests of Chinese companies and individuals.
“The Chinese Government remains unwavering in its determination to safeguard national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity and protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and citizens,” the note reads.
Beijing, which claims Taiwan as part of Chinese territory, admits resorting to force if necessary and halted high-level talks with the administration of Tsai Ing-wen, who came to power in 2016.
