Around 125 migrants left this Sunday rescued from three boats in waters near Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, with another boat arriving at this last island with 55 people on board, according to provisional data.
According to state sources reported to the Spanish news agency EFE, the first alert was given at 1:15 p.m., when the Civil Guard radar detected a boat about 24 kilometers south of Gran Canaria.
The Las Palmas Maritime Rescue Center is activated, 15 migrants were rescued. Twenty minutes later, a new boat was located, 37 kilometers south of Fuerteventura, tAfter the 51 men were rescued who were on board.
During this operation, a young man, of North African origin, was seen drifting on a truck tire.
As several sources from the emergency team explained to EFE, The young man was detected approximately 16.5 kilometers southeast of the island of Fuerteventura. and showed symptoms of hypothermia.
Once the rescue was completed, the young man was transported to land, along with the occupants of the boat located moments before.
To the emergency services, the young man said that he left with a friend from Tarfaya, in Morocco, in the tire of the truck. The friend ended up dying during the night of Saturday, after traveling approximately 123 kilometers west and drifting for several days.
The last ship, which sounded the alert at around 3:20 p.m., was about nine miles off the coast of Lanzarote, and the rescue resources rescued 54 people of sub-Saharan and North African origin, who were transferred to the Arrecife dock.
Another 55 people were on board a boat that arrived on its own at the Caletillas-El Matorral beach, on the island of Fuerteventura, after being assisted by a Red Cross team.
The people rescued today join another 180 migrants rescued on Saturday by Spanish maritime rescue personnel.
