The World Health Organization (WHO) warns of the risk that Covid-19 will return “silent” if the situation in Africa is not reversed.
In a statement, the WHO regional director for the African continent, Matshidiso Moeti, explains that, so far, only 24% of the African population has received full vaccination, a figure that compares with 64% worldwide. .
In addition, only three of the 54 African countries – Liberia, Mauritius and Seychelles – managed to vaccinate 70% of the population with the necessary doses, writes Agence France Press.
Vaccination on the African continent has slowed down in recent months, regrets the WHO. In September, 23 million vaccines were administered on the continent, compared to 47 million administered in July.
The end of the pandemic is in sight, as long as Africa does not fall behind in vaccination, Matshidiso Moeti stressed.
