North Korea repeats artillery fire at border with South Korea

North Korea fired artillery shells at the sea border with South Korea on Tuesday, a day after Seoul began annual military exercises to better deal with North Korea’s provocations.

South Korea’s joint chiefs of staff said the Pyongyang regime had fired about 100 projectiles on the west coast and 150 on the east coast, adding that the South Korean military had sent messages calling on North Korea to stop firing.

Seoul explained that the projectiles did not land in South Korean territorial waters, but fell within the maritime transition zones the two Koreas established under a 2018 agreement to reduce hostility at the border.
