At least 429 children have been killed in Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24 and more than 800 have been injured, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office revealed on Friday.
According to official data published by prosecutors for minors on the Telegram social network, so far 429 children have died in different attacks throughout the country, especially in the eastern regions of Ukraine, the most affected by Russian attacks.
In addition, more than 817 suffered injuries of various kinds and required medical assistance.
These figures are not final, as prosecutors continue to work to establish the number of child victims in the places where there is fighting, in the territories temporarily occupied by the Russians and in those that have already been liberated by the Ukrainian army.
Due to shelling and attacks by the armed forces of the Russian Federation, 2,663 educational institutions throughout Ukraine were damaged and about 326 of them were completely destroyed, according to the same sources.
The military offensive launched on February 24 by Russia in Ukraine has already caused the flight of more than 13 million people -more than six million internally displaced persons and more than 7.7 million to European countries-, according to the latest data from the UN, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).
