“Immediately measures were taken to strengthen the protection of the outer perimeter” of the embassy, Lavrov added at the entrance of a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin.
The head of Russian diplomacy added that, in addition to the Russian security forces linked to the embassy, soldiers from the Taliban authorities and the Afghan secret services were present.
“We believe that those responsible for this terrorist attack and those responsible will quickly receive the punishment they deserve,” Lavrov said.
According to Afghan authorities, at least two people were killed and 11 others were injured in today’s suicide attack after a suicide bomber detonated several explosives near the entrance to the Russian diplomatic mission, located in the southwest of the Afghan capital.
The incident took place “in front of the Russian embassy, when the suicide bomber was trying to attack the head of security at the embassy,” the area’s police chief, Malawi Saber, told the Spanish news agency EFE.
“Among the dead is an Afghan official from the Russian embassy and a civilian,” the same source initially said, noting that among the 11 injured was a member of the Taliban security forces.

The Russian state news agency RIA Novosti also referred to the attack, adding that the incident took place when a Russian diplomatic official left the embassy to call visa applicants waiting there.
Russia was one of the few countries that advocated a rapprochement with the Taliban regime, despite not having the recognition of the international community.
