At least 429 children have been killed in Ukraine since the Russian invasion began on Feb. 24 and more than 800 have been injured, Ukraine’s attorney general said Friday.
According to official data published by juvenile judges on the social network Telegram, 429 children have been killed so far in several attacks across the country, especially in the eastern regions of Ukraine, which have been most affected by the Russian attacks.
In addition, more than 817 suffered injuries of various kinds and required medical attention.
These figures are not definitive as prosecutors continue to work to determine the number of child victims in fighting areas, in areas temporarily occupied by the Russians and in areas already liberated by the Ukrainian army.
As a result of bombings and attacks by the armed forces of the Russian Federation, 2,663 educational institutions across Ukraine have been damaged and about 326 of these have been completely destroyed, according to the same sources.
The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on Feb. 24 has already resulted in more than 13 million people fleeing — more than six million internally displaced persons and more than 7.7 million to European countries — according to the latest data from the UN, which ranks this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).
The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the generality of the international community, which has responded by sending arms to Ukraine and impose it on Russia. political and economic sanctions.
The UN presented 6,306 dead civilians and 9,602 wounded as confirmed since the start of the war, stressing that these numbers are far below the actual number.
