Attack on the Capitol. Former Trump adviser sentenced to four months in prison

A federal court in Washington on Friday sentenced Steve Bannon, a former adviser to former US President Donald Trump, to four months in prison for refusing to cooperate with justice.

Judge Carl Nichols also accepted the prosecutor’s request that Bannon pay a fine – although he reduced its amount – for not agreeing to collaborate with the congressional commission investigating the attack on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021.

The prosecution had also asked for six months in prison for this far-right activist, in addition to the fine, while Bannon’s lawyers asked that their client serve his sentence under house arrest.

Nichols notified defense attorneys before making the decision that Bannon should spend at least a month behind bars.

Last July, Bannon was found guilty by a jury for refusing to appear before the congressional committee investigating the attack on Capitol Hill, as well as for refusing to provide some documents.

Trump’s former adviser is expected to appeal the sentence, according to information provided by average Americans.

In addition to this case, Bannon faces another lawsuit in New York for alleged fraud in a fundraising campaign to help build a wall on the border with Mexico.

Bannon is also the subject of two felony money laundering charges, two counts of conspiracy and one count of fraud.
