The commission investigating the attack on the US Capitol on Friday issued a subpoena to former US President Donald Trump, saying the Republican “orchestrated” a plan to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
“We recognize that subpoenaing a former president is a significant and historic action,” commission chair Bennie Thompson and vice chair Liz Cheney wrote in their letter to Trump.
The nine-member panel sent a letter to the former head of state’s lawyers, demanding his testimony under oath by November 14.
