United Kingdom: stab attack on a south London train and calls for witnesses

British police launched a call for witnesses after a man was seriously injured with a knife on Wednesday, March 27, on a train in south London, United Kingdom, British media report.

A fight between two men

According to the first elements of the investigation, a fight broke out between two men on Wednesday around four in the afternoon, local time, while they were boarding a train located at Shortlands station in Bromley, a city in greater London.

Images shared on social media show a man dressed all in black, with a mask on his face and a sword in his hand. Passengers who witnessed this fight asked him not to take action.

Police responded to the scene of the attack on Wednesday afternoon. Train traffic was disrupted until around 6:30 p.m. local time, according to Sky News.

According to the BBC, on Wednesday afternoon the injured man’s health was in danger. Emergency services treated him directly at the scene of the attack.

A “serious incident”

So far, no arrests have been made. The British Transport Police reported in a statement that a man was “seriously injured” and assured that he had been transferred to a hospital at a trauma center in the British capital.

“We have been informed of a serious incident on board one of our services,” a South East London Trains spokesperson said. “We ask anyone with information to contact them immediately.”

“All our trains are equipped with CCTV and we will provide this footage to British Transport Police to assist their investigations,” the spokesperson added.
