‘Inappropriate’: Welsh association cancels cemetery Easter egg hunt

Friends of Wrexham Cemetery have been forced to cancel their children’s event amid outrage from locals and social media.

An unusual choice of place that does not go unnoticed. The organizers of an Easter egg hunt in Wrexham cemetery, north Wales, have canceled the event scheduled for Wednesday, April 3, the British media Sky News reported this Thursday.

The Friends of Wrexham Cemetery initially saw the organization of this children’s event as a “wonderful idea to interest young people in local genealogy” during a “fun and exciting” time.

wave of indignation

Very quickly, many Internet users and relatives of people buried in the cemetery became outraged by an “inappropriate” event. “I think it’s totally disrespectful and certainly not a very good idea,” one of them reacted, for example.

The association then decided to cancel, but insisted on defending itself, judging the reactions to be “disproportionate and abusive.” According to her, the children would have been confined in an area where the tombs are more than a century old and which had been converted into a children’s playground, and they would also not have “climbed into the tombs.”

They added: “We don’t understand why anyone would be angry about children enjoying an outdoor space – this should be encouraged.” And to conclude: “It is a shame that some have expressed their concerns so aggressively.”
