Particularly spectacular images. On the night of Thursday, March 28, 2024, a fire broke out in a tower under construction in the Torre neighborhood of the city of Recife, in northern Brazil. According to local media Folha de PernambucoA dozen floors of this tower, which was to be delivered in 2026, were damaged and part of the structure began to collapse.
No risk of collapse
According to this same source, it was a security agent present at the scene who warned of the beginning of the disaster. He was able to leave the scene and was not injured. While four fire engines continue to try to extinguish the flames, traffic on adjacent streets has been cut off.
Among the concerns is a construction crane on top of the building that is threatening to collapse. According to several witnesses, burning debris that fell from the tower sparked other smaller fires as it fell.
“The engineer in charge evaluated that there was no risk of structural rupture, which gives us much more confidence,” however he wanted to reassure Colonel Luciano Fonseca, commander of the firefighters, always with Folha de Pernambuco. The latter also assured that the disaster did not cause human casualties.
