Explosion of fuel truck destroys 15 homes in Mexico

Fifteen homes in a neighborhood of Aguascalientes, in northern Mexico, were destroyed by a large explosion caused by the collision between a fuel tanker and a train, which evacuated 300 families, authorities said.

“According to the diagnosis made house by house (…) we have completely destroyed fifteen houses”said this Friday the local mayor, Leonardo Montañez, on social networks.

On Thursday afternoon, the 911 emergency telephone service received information about “an accident between a train and a fuel tanker,” Aguascalientes governor María Teresa Jiménez told Thursday evening.

“Firefighters were on the scene very quickly and managed to evacuate about 300 homes in Colonia México,” the governor added.

The incident caused no injuries or deaths, the governor continued, who assured the tanker driver was arrested and “nothing happened to him, he only sustained an arm wound”.

The rest of the damaged homes in the popular neighborhood will be analyzed this Friday to determine “how many can be inhabited,” Montañez added.
