Kiev government asks Ukrainians to stay abroad for winter

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Head of Reintegration of the Occupied Territories, Iryna Vereshchuk, on Tuesday asked Ukrainian citizens abroad not to return to their country during the winter due to the difficult energy situation.

“I beg you not to come back. We have to survive the winter. Unfortunately, the nets won’t last. You see what Russia is doing. If you have the chance, spend the winter abroad for now.”Vereshchuk asked, in statements to the public television station.

The Ukrainian deputy prime minister stressed that Russia is terrorizing the civilian population and says it is a sign that Moscow is failing to defeat Kiev’s forces on the battlefield.

According to Ukrainian authorities, between October 10 and 20, Russian missiles and drone strikes damaged more than 400 facilities in 16 regions of Ukraine, including dozens of energy infrastructure.

Ukraine’s Attorney General Andriy Kostin also revealed that since the war started in late February, Russia has carried out 85 attacks on Ukrainian power plants, 51 of them in October alone, involving about 40% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24 has already led to more than 13 million people fleeing – more than six million displaced persons and more than 7.5 million to European countries – according to the latest UN data, which this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).
