The Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico, victim of an attack in mid-May, continues his convalescence in his home in Bratislava, the Minister of the Interior reported on Friday, May 31.
Robert Fico was shot several times on May 15 after a remote government meeting in Handlova, a town in central Slovakia, while greeting supporters.
Transported to the hospital in the city of Banska Bystrica, he underwent two surgeries that lasted several hours and remained there for several days convalescing.
On Thursday evening, the hospital reported that the prime minister was transferred to Bratislava for further treatment, without specifying his exact location.
“Yesterday we managed to bring the prime minister home. He is at home and he will recover there,” Matus Sutaj Estok told reporters on Friday.
“A disciplined patient”
He said he had no information about the Prime Minister’s health, but on Thursday morning the hospital in Banska Bystrica was satisfied.
According to the hospital, this situation would improve and “the rehabilitation process would progress in a very satisfactory manner.”
On Friday morning, the hospital also thanked the Prime Minister for being “a disciplined patient.”
Robert Fico’s alleged attacker, identified by Slovak media as 71-year-old Juraj Cintula, was immediately arrested by the Prime Minister’s security guards. He was remanded in custody for attempted premeditated murder.
