The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Spain rose four tenths in October compared to September, while the annual rate fell 1.6 points to 7.3%, the lowest value since February, when it stood at 7 .6%.
According to the National Institute of Statistics of Spain, the data for October, which should be confirmed in the middle of next month, are 3.5 points lower than the peak reached last July, when inflation rose to 10.8%, the level highest since September 1984.
With the moderation registered in October, inflation registered three consecutive months of decreases in the interannual rate, after having fallen three tenths in August, to 10.5%, and in September having fallen 1.6 points, to 8.9 %.
According to data released today, the moderation in the year-on-year CPI to 7.3% in October is mainly due to the fall in electricity prices and, to a lesser extent, to lower gas prices.
In monthly terms (October over September), the CPI registers an increase of four tenths.
The Spanish statistics institute includes in the advance of the CPI data an estimate of core inflation (excluding unprocessed food and energy products), which remained at 6.2% in October, 1.1 points below the CPI general.
