An individual entered the home of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, this Friday morning in San Francisco, violently assaulting her husband Paul Pelosi, the policy spokesman announced.
“Mr. Pelosi has been taken to hospital,” the statement said, adding that the 82-year-old victim “is receiving excellent care and is expected to make a full recovery.” At this stage of the case, the motivations of the aggressor are not yet known. The suspect was arrested.
For her part, the leader of the Democrats in Congress, Nancy Pelosi, was not present in San Francisco at the time of the attack, her spokesman said.
Less than two weeks before the midterm elections, several US elected officials have sounded the alarm against renewed violence against them. According to the Capitol Police, responsible for protecting members of Congress, threats against them have more than doubled since 2017, from 3,939 to 9,625 in 2021.
