An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook several areas of eastern and northeastern Japan, including Fukushima, on Saturday, without the authorities having reported personal or material damage, the Efe agency reported.
The Japan Meteorological Agency located the origin of the earthquake in the Pacific, about 50 kilometers deep, but no tsunami alert was activated.
Authorities also ruled out possible damage to nuclear plants located in the affected region, as well as major disruptions in transportation, according to the Japanese meteorological agency.
