Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is expected to make his first official statement after his electoral defeat later on Tuesday, but will not contest the election result. advances the Reuters agency.
Brazilian Communications Minister Fabio Faria told Reuters Bolsonaro is expected to meet with Supreme Court ministers before speaking to the country, adding that the far-right leader will not contest the results.
With 100% of the votes counted, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won Sunday’s presidential elections by a narrow margin, receiving 50.9% of the votes, compared to 49.1% for Jair Bolsonaro, who was seeking a new four-year term.
Since Monday morning, groups of truckers have blocked several highways in the country for not accepting the results of the elections.
The truck drivers affirm that there was fraud in the presidential elections, a position that Bolsonaro defended before the vote, since he considers, without evidence, that the electronic voting system could be manipulated.
