The South Korean military called the launch of a North Korean missile near its waters on Wednesday “intolerable” and promised a “decisive” response. “Our military will never be able to tolerate this act of provocation by North Korea and will respond firmly in close cooperation with the United States,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff said, the Yonhap news agency reported.
Earlier Wednesday, Pyongyang launched at least 10 missiles. One of these missiles reached South Korean waters in the Sea of Japan, about sixty kilometers from the coast. According to Seoul, this is “the first time” that a North Korean missile has landed “near South Korean territorial waters south of the Northern Limit Line.”
Japan also denounced ballistic missile launches by North Korea on Wednesday. Pyongyang “continues to fire missiles at an unprecedented high frequency, and this can never be tolerated,” Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was quoted as saying by the Yonhap news agency.
