Georgian Deputy Prime Minister Levan Davitashili announced on Sunday that an agreement will soon be signed in Bucharest for the supply of electricity from Azerbaijan to Romania and Hungary through the territory of Georgia and the Black Sea.
“The cooperation in this area will soon be formalized in Bucharest,” Davitashvili, also responsible for the Economy portfolio, said in a live statement to the Imedi television station.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that: “in the project – which has the support of the European Union (EU) – an investment of billions of euros is planned”.
Without revealing details of the agreement, Levan Davitashili announced that the next major project with the EU, already under study, is the supply of liquefied natural gas to EU countries from Georgia.
On the 24th, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliev, paid a visit to Georgia, where he assured that his country’s export capacity “is 10 gigawatts in terms of renewable energy and that it can be exported from the Caspian Sea region 157 gigawatts”.
