Martina Rosenberg, president of the German military counterintelligence service, this Sunday denounced a historic record of espionage attempts, especially on military installations and undertaken by Russia and China.
Rosenberg warned that the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) are the target of multiple threat scenarios, while the Counter Military Intelligence Service continues to detect “numerous anomalies and espionage attempts” by intelligence agencies in other countries, according to the Europa Press news agency.
The military counterintelligence service has detected drone flights over military installations and military training centers of the Ukrainian Bundeswehr.
The same source illustrated that the Ministry of Defense reported that in the early morning of October 1, drones repeatedly flew over the Wildflecken military training area, Bavaria, in southern Germany.
According to previous reports, Russian intelligence services tried to spy on Ukrainian military training with Western weapon systems in Germany in late August and suspicious vehicles were sighted near the training centers in Idar-Oberstein (Rhineland-Palatinate) and Grafenwöhr (Bavaria).
According to Rosenberg, the activities of foreign intelligence services were already at a “high level” before February 24, 2022, that is, before the Russian attack on Ukraine.
“The aim of our work is to detect and effectively combat espionage activities, in particular by Russian and Chinese intelligence services, at an early stage, including in cooperation with national and international partner authorities,” he added.
