Faith in Bolsonaro, “so that Brazil does not become a Venezuela”

On the eve of Brazil’s Independence Day, there are already many supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro in Brasilia. They believe in a “fight of good against evil” and a victory in the first round, despite the polls.

In the hotels or in the streets around the Esplanada dos Ministérios, where the civil-military parade will take place on September 7, it is almost inevitable to meet someone dressed in green and yellow.

Ana and Nilton live more than 1,300 kilometers from Brasilia and came for the Brazilian Independence Day. THE TSF, Nilton emphasizes that the road is long, but there is something greater than that: “the pride of being Brazilian and yearning for a better country.” This is the third time they have made this type of pilgrimage. They do so “honoring the President, who has always done the best he could” and believing in Bolsonaro’s re-election in the first round.

Unshakable faith in Brazil’s president, who ranks second in polls released so far, is the fuel for the week’s stay in Brasilia.

Ana thanks “first, God, for the opportunity”, thinking of her generations. THE TSF, says he doesn’t want a generation ruled by “human misconceptions, gender ideology” and “a communist country that doesn’t support religions and doesn’t respect human freedom.” “That’s why we came here with so much fervor and so much joy to defend our Brazil”, he justifies.

As for the criticisms directed at Bolsonaro, they are “unfair”, “from those who fight against democracy,” Ana maintains. And in the face of any fear that something could go wrong, this September 7, Nilton assures that it does not exist.

“We fight for a better Brazil. Because (…) if it continued as in the previous era, soon Brazil would become a Venezuela, production would end, everything would end. In other words, it would become a nobody’s country”, adds Nilton.

The elections are reduced, in the words of Ana and Nilton, to a fight of “good against evil”.
