Ukraine “strongly condemns” the “displacements” of inhabitants of the Zaporijjia regions and especially Kherson, where Russia is carrying out “massive forced displacements”, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
“The Russian occupation administration has started the massive forced displacement of residents” from the Kherson region, more specifically Skadovsk and Kakhovka, to Crimea or Russia, the ministry said in a statement.
“Russia is also conducting similar trips in the Zaporizhia, Lugansk and Donetsk regions, as well as in Crimea,” the ministry added.
Towards a “large-scale human and humanitarian disaster”?
These displacements are accompanied by “looting by the Russian occupiers of industrial, cultural, educational and medical establishments, as well as private houses and apartments,” says the Ukrainian ministry.
It states that “alarming information is also circulating about Russian troops mining the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant, the explosion of which could cause a large-scale human and humanitarian catastrophe.”
These “forced displacements” violate “seriously international law”, denounces the ministry, citing article 49 of the 1949 Geneva Convention.
He called on the international community to condemn Russia, decided on new sanctions and increased military aid to help Ukraine recapture “occupied territories” from Russia.
