The image spread across social networks. A British woman pleaded guilty this Monday, October 21, in the United Kingdom to having thrown a milkshake at the leader of the far-right Reform UK party, Nigel Farage, during the campaign for the July 2024 legislative elections.
Shortly after announcing on June 4 that he was running for parliament, Nigel Farage, 60, was the victim of a thrown banana milkshake in the coastal town of Clacton-on-Sea, where he had been elected.
Victoria Thomas Bowen, 25, initially pleaded not guilty in July to violence and damaging a jacket belonging to the UK reform leader’s security guard, before admitting her guilt during Monday’s hearing. This British woman will receive her sentence on December 16.
“All options are considered,” stressed the judge, who denounced a “selective and unprovoked attack” against an elected official.
A similar incident in 2019.
A few days after this incident, Nigel Farage was targeted by thrown objects, including a coffee cup taken from a rubbish bin, for which a 28-year-old man was sentenced to six weeks in prison.
After failing seven times, Nigel Farage was elected MP in the legislative elections in which his nationalist and anti-immigration party Reform UK obtained more than 14% of the votes and achieved a notable entry into Parliament with five seats.
It is not the first time that the Brexiteer has been attacked in this way. In 2019, a man was sentenced to 150 hours of community service for throwing a banana milkshake with salted caramel at him during the European election campaign, the last in the United Kingdom.
