Less than two weeks from the american presidential electionsRapper Eminem endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris on Tuesday night during a rally in Detroit, Michigan.
“As you know, Detroit and Michigan mean a lot to me,” he said. “More than ever, the eyes of the world are on us and I think it’s important to make our voices heard. So I encourage each of you to vote.”
And the rapper added: “I also believe that people should not be afraid to make their opinions known. I don’t want an America where people are afraid of what could happen to them if they make their opinions known.”
“I believe that Vice President Harris is fighting for a future in which these freedoms are protected and defended,” he insisted before giving way to former President Barack Obama.
“My palms are sweaty.”
On stage, Barack Obama rapped Eminem’s success Get lost. “My palms are sweating, my knees are shaking…” he said before rapping the first verses of the song, which won the Oscar for best original song in 2003.
“I thought Eminem was going to go up on stage to sing and I was going to come down!” he joked again.
Several celebrities have supported Kamala Harris in recent weeks. Bruce Springsteen called in early October to vote for the Democratic candidate before calling Donald Trump “the most dangerous presidential candidate of my lifetime.”
“Since the Civil War, this great country has perhaps never been more divided politically, spiritually and emotionally than it is now,” the singer noted in his support video.
Katy Perry, Beyoncé, George Clooney and Ariana Grande have already called to vote for Kamala Harris. The biggest support came from Taylor Swift who, last septemberdescribed the Democratic candidate as a “warrior.”
