Vladimir Putin says Middle East is ‘on the brink of total war’

The Russian president called for “an end to violence” and “providing life-saving assistance to victims” of the Middle East war at a BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia.

The Middle East is “on the brink of total war,” Russian President Vladimir Putin warned this Thursday, October 24, amid escalating tensions in the region, particularly between Israel and Hezbollah.

“The fighting has spread to Lebanon. Other countries in the region are also affected. The degree of confrontation between Israel and Iran has increased considerably. All this seems like a chain reaction and puts the entire Middle “East” on the brink of a total war.” he warned in a speech at the BRICS summit in Kazan.

“It is necessary to end the violence and provide vital assistance to the victims,” he continued before about twenty leaders, including the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.

“Launch a global political process”

“The urgent task is, without a doubt, to launch a comprehensive political process to resolve the problem in the Middle East as a whole,” Vladimir Putin continued, calling tensions in the region a “source of concern.”

“This is an escalation of a long-standing conflict,” he said.

The Russian president, once again, also called for “the creation of an independent Palestinian state that coexists peacefully with Israel.”

Russia, historically close to Israel and where a significant Russian diaspora lives, has in recent months strengthened its ties with Iran, an enemy of Israel and accused by the West of supplying explosive drones and short-range missiles to the Russian army.
