The 36-year-old official, who appeared in a video in August dancing with Finnish friends and celebrities, defended herself against several complaints accusing her of conduct that had damaged Finland’s “reputation and safety”.
The Finnish judiciary analyzed the case and indicated that Sanna Marin did not neglect her duties as head of government. “There is no reason to suspect that the Prime Minister has committed unlawful conduct in the performance of her duties or has neglected her official duties.”Finnish Justice Minister Tuomas Poysti said after an official inquiry.
At the time, Sanna Marin took a drug test after the party and it came back negative, “to clear up any doubts,” he said. It did so after several comments on the party’s video suggested the Finnish prime minister was high on drugs at the time of the party.
When the video was made public, Marin said the party had taken place in a “private venue during a night out with friends”. When asked about the video, he replied: “I’m human and sometimes I like to have fun, even though we live in difficult and dark times.”
The incident sparked a wave of solidarity among many women who began posting videos on social media of them dancing in solidarity with the Finnish Prime Minister.
Sanna Marin became the youngest woman in the world to become prime minister at the age of 34 in 2019.
