The Russian offensive continues. An airstrike in Kharkiv killed at least four people early Tuesday, said the mayor of Ukraine’s second city, whose capital was also attacked overnight, according to authorities.
“At 2:51 a.m., Kharkiv was subject to an airstrike” that hit the Osnovianskyi district, “presumably by means of an aerial bomb,” Igor Terejov said on the Telegram social network. After the first three deaths, “the body of a fourth person was found under the rubble,” he wrote.
“Two houses were destroyed and about 20” more suffered damage of varying severity, the councilor said, adding that rescue teams were searching for possible victims.
Drone attack
Kharkiv, a large northeastern city located 30 kilometers from the Russian border, is periodically bombed by Moscow’s army, which has been carrying out an offensive in Ukraine since February 24, 2022.
The Russian army bombed this Monday an emblematic Soviet constructivist-style building in Kharkiv, the Derjprom building, according to Ukrainian authorities, leaving at least six people injured.
kyiv was also subject to a drone attack early Tuesday at 4:29 a.m., which “set parked vehicles, a store and a commercial building on fire,” Ukrainian emergency services reported on Telegram, adding that the fire had been extinguished.
“Fifteen people were evacuated and four injured people were treated by paramedics. A man with leg injuries was hospitalized,” the same source added.
According to the mayor of kyiv, the events occurred in the Solomianskyi district, in the west of the capital. On Friday night, a drone hit a residential tower in kyiv, killing at least one person and injuring two, according to local authorities.
Ukraine has asked its allies to strengthen its air defenses as a harsh winter approaches and Russia steps up its attacks on energy infrastructure.
