Impressive images, unusual for the region. This Tuesday, October 29, the region of Valencia, in eastern Spain, is affected by violent rains washed away by the high altitude depression of non-tropical origin (Dana), a phenomenon also known as cold drop.
According to several Spanish media, including El Mundo, the phenomenon caused torrential rains that completely blocked some roads, including the A7 highway that connects Valencia with Alicante. The water also paralyzed traffic on line 1 of the Valencia metro.
The entire Valencian Community has been placed on red alert by Aemet, the Spanish meteorological service, for the next few hours.
Much of the peninsula affected
The area is not the only one affected. Further south, Andalusia was also affected by violent rains that caused several rivers in the province to overflow.
The town of Álora, near Málaga, is especially concerned, where numerous infrastructures and homes were flooded.
In the region of Almería, in El Ejido, an impressive hailstorm hit the city and caused extensive damage to road infrastructure, greenhouses, sports facilities and even warehouses.
Previously, impressive floods were also recorded on the island of Mallorca and all of the Balearic Islands.
France is also affected, very marginally. The city of Perpignan received more than 130 l/m2 of rain in the last 24 hours, the highest daily rainfall recorded since 2011.
