At least seven people have died in the coastal state of Anzoátegui, in eastern Venezuela, due to landslides and floods caused by heavy rains, regional authorities announced Friday.
Six bodies were found in the city of Puerto La Cruz, and another, that of a child, was found in the nearby city of Guanta, state governor Luis Marcano said.
About 80 people have died in the country in recent weeks due to heavy rains, including 54 in a landslide on October 8 in Las Tejerías, a town in the north-central state of Aragua, according to official reports.
In Anzoátegui, a thousand rescuers, volunteers and officials were deployed.
