US justice validates the end of the process against Donald Trump for electoral interference

The judge in charge of the case against the American president-elect has validated the request of special prosecutor Jack Smith to stop the process against him.

The judge in the case against Donald Trump for illegal attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 elections validated on Monday the request of special prosecutor Jack Smith to stop the process against the now president-elect of the United States.

Judge Tanya Chutkan approved Jack Smith’s recommendation, which follows a policy adopted more than 50 years ago by the Department of Justice, consisting of not prosecuting a sitting president and applied to this “without prior” situation.

A “big victory” for Trump’s team

Jack Smith had already taken this path by obtaining from the judge, a few days after the November 5 vote that resulted in the victory of the Republican presidential candidate, the annulment of all deadlines on the calendar in this matter.

He motivated his request by the need to give the prosecution “time to analyze this unprecedented situation and determine the course of action to follow in accordance with Department of Justice policy.”

Donald Trump’s campaign team immediately welcomed a “major victory for the rule of law.”
