War in Ukraine: How Kyiv uses US and British long-range missiles

After the American green light, the Ukrainian military used long-range missiles to attack targets behind the Russian border. A novelty in the conflict.

A new asset for the Ukrainian army. Long requested by Volodymyr Zelensky, Washington’s authorization to use long-range missiles against Russia was immediately exploited by kyiv.

Since November 17, the date of the US green light, the Ukrainian army has already carried out at least four attacks with these weapons, mainly in the Russian Kursk region. An area that the Ukrainian army partially controls since an offensive launched last summer and where North Korean soldiers are deployed in support of Russian forces.

Airfield, ammunition depot…

On the night of Monday to Tuesday, November 19, kyiv carried out its first attack with long-range American ATACMS missiles against a large ammunition depot in Karachev, in the Russian Bryansk region, approximately 110 kilometers from the Russian border.

The next day, a barrage of at least twelve British Storm Shadow missiles fell on a Russian underground command center at Marino, in the Kursk region. According to the Wall Street Journal, a North Korean general was wounded in this attack.

“The objective of this takeover is to stop the Russian counteroffensive in the Kursk area,” explains Air Force General Patrick Dutartre on the BFMTV set.

On November 23, an S-400 air defense system was destroyed near the village of Bolshoye Zhyrovo, also in the Kursk region, killing several Russian officers.

During the latest attack, carried out this Monday, November 25, ATACMS missiles targeted the Kursk-Skhidny airfield, near the city of Kursk, where Russian fighter jets were stationed.

Russia has promised an “appropriate” response to Western missile attacks on its territory. President Vladimir Putin also announced that he did not rule out attacks against countries whose weapons are used in kyiv in Russia, considering that the conflict had acquired “a global character.”

The Russian army, for its part, also crossed a threshold in the use of its arsenal by attacking the city of Dnipro with an “Orechnik” hypersonic ballistic missile, initially mistakenly presented by the Ukrainian army as an intercontinental missile.
