Suspect in Canadian attack that killed 10 remains at large

Three days after the massacre that killed ten people in Canada, one of the alleged perpetrators of the attack has still not been located, after the police confirmed that he was not in the indigenous reservation where the raids were carried out.

Several Mounted Police officers traveled this Wednesday to the James Smith Cree Nation Indian Reservation, where the stabbings occurred this Sunday, in an attempt to find Myles Sanderson, after receiving information about his possible presence in that community, reports the EFE agency.

Authorities warned the roughly 1,000 people living on the reservation in Saskatchewan province to shelter in their homes and not contact strangers, but confirmed hours later that the suspected attacker was not there.

Police did not reveal a possible motive for the attacks, but an indigenous leader in Saskatchewan linked them to a wave of violence and drug use in the community.

Police consider Myles Sanderson, 30, and his brother Damien Sanderson, 31, suspects in multiple stabbings that killed 10 people and wounded 18 others in the James Smith Cree Nation and the nearby town of Weldon.

On Monday, security forces located Damien Sanderson’s body on the Indian reservation and said he died from injuries inflicted by another person.

Myles Sanderson has been wanted since May 2022 for failing to comply with the conditions of his parole.

The fugitive was sentenced to five years in prison for assault, robbery, malicious conduct and threats, but after being released on parole, he disappeared.
