A senior Russian occupation official in Ukraine’s Kherson region, Kirill Stremousov, was killed in a traffic accident on Wednesday, a Russian leader said, amid kyiv’s counteroffensive in the territory.
“J’ai la grande tristesse d’annoncer that Kirill Stremousov a été tué dans la région de Kherson (…) dans un accident de la route”, indicated Vladimir Saldo, chef of the administration d’occupation russe dans la region.
The Kherson region, annexed by Moscow, has been occupied by Russian forces since the start of the war. It is located in the south of Ukraine.
For several weeks, pro-Russian authorities in the region have been organizing civilian evacuations in the face of advancing Kyiv forces. In recent months, a number of Moscow-appointed executives have been the target of attacks, sometimes deadly, attributed by the Kremlin to Ukrainian intelligence services operating behind enemy lines.
Occupation Spokesperson
Since the conquest of the Kherson region in early March, Kirill Stremousov had been one of the most enthusiastic spokesmen for the Russian occupation forces. He spoke very often in the pro-Kremlin media and strongly supported the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.
In recent days, he has spoken frequently about the major evacuations that are taking place in the Kherson region, in the face of the advance of the Ukrainian troops who have been carrying out a counteroffensive there for weeks.
“He worked without weapons. He worked with words and with his ability to express himself”, praised Vladimir Saldo.
“It is a huge tragedy, an irreparable loss,” Sergei Aksionov, head of the pro-Russian occupation of the Ukrainian region of Crimea, annexed by Moscow, also reacted on Telegram. According to various Russian media, Kirill Stremousov was born in 1976 in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk (east), partially occupied by the Russian army.
