The president of the United States, Joe Biden, reiterated this Wednesday that he “intends” to run for a second term in 2024, but will confirm it “early next year.”
“My intention is to represent myself,” the Democratic leader said during a press conference, specifying that it was, however, a “family decision.”
Joe Biden, the oldest US president ever elected, will turn 80 in a few days and the prospect of a new candidacy hardly charms public opinion, not even his Democratic camp.
“He is not in a hurry” to announce his candidacy
He clarified Wednesday that his choice would not depend on his Republican rival Donald Trump, who plans to announce himself as a 2024 candidate next week from his Florida residence.
“I am in no rush to make this decision, today, tomorrow, anytime, no matter what my predecessor does,” he told reporters from the White House.
Joe Biden was speaking the day after the midterm legislative elections in which his party limited the damage on a ballot traditionally difficult for the president’s party, and which was seen as a test for his political future.
