“A dog attack”: 7-year-old boy killed in Belgium by family breeding pack

A 7-year-old boy was attacked for unexplained reasons by purebred dogs cared for by his family, who runs a kennel. The boy was seriously injured and did not survive.

A 7-year-old boy was attacked and fatally injured on Thursday, January 9, by several dogs from a breeding farm managed by his family, in Quévy, southern Belgium, the Mons prosecutor’s office reported on Friday, January 10.

The child “died after an attack by dogs” belonging to “the family,” declared a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office contacted by Agence France-Presse (AFP) without further details about the context of the drama.

Five dogs pounce on the boy

According to RTBF radio and television, the accident occurred when the child’s mother was with the child feeding a pack of Alaskan Malamute dogs.

For an inexplicable reason at that moment, five dogs pounced on the boy. The mother tried to intervene, but the child was already seriously injured when she managed to free him.

The mother gave first aid to her son, without success. The emergency services were only able to confirm the death of the young man, Belgian media further specify.

An open investigation

A homicide investigation was opened and a psychological unit was created to help the family, as also reported by the French-speaking public broadcaster.

The farm is located in Goegnies-Chaussée, a village in the commune of Quévy located on the French border, between Mons, in Belgium, and Maubeuge, in the Nord department, in France.
