Influencer “Doualemn”: Algeria denounces an “arbitrary” expulsion by France and points the finger at a “hateful extreme right”

Since the beginning of January, five Algerian influencers and one Franco-Algerian have been the subject of trials in France for inciting hatred, often against opponents of the Algerian government. One of them, nicknamed “Doualemn”, was deported to Algeria before being sent back to France.

Algeria reacts. The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced this Saturday, January 11, in a press release the “arbitrary and abusive” expulsion of the influencer “Doualemn” to Algeria, but he later returned to France.

“The national subject to expulsion has lived in France for 36 years. He has had a residence permit there for 15 years. He is the father of two children born from his union with a French national. Finally, he is socially integrated in the To such extent who has had a stable job for 15 years,” argues Alger.

“Doualemn”, a 59-year-old Algerian with 168,000 subscribers on TikTok, was arrested on January 5 in Montpellier and detained in an administrative detention center (CRA) in Nîmes. He was deported to Algeria after having published a video in which he called for “a severe beating of a man who appeared to reside in Algeria”, a “call for torture”, according to the prefect of Hérault.

But he was immediately returned to France, since Algeria had “expelled him from the territory”, according to the Ministry of the Interior. He was admitted again to the CRA, in Mesnil-Amelot (Seine-et-Marne). He is scheduled to be tried on February 24 for “provocation to commit a crime.”

Retailleau accuses Algeria of “seeking to humiliate France”

After this influencer’s transfer to France, Paris responded. France “will have no choice but to retaliate” if “the Algerians continue with this escalatory posture,” the French Foreign Minister declared on Friday.

Minister Jean-Noël Barrot declared in LCI that he was “surprised” by the fact that the Algerian authorities have “refused to welcome one of their nationals”, whose case is now “judicialized” in France.

“Algeria seeks to humiliate France,” Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau also denounced.

Algeria rejects any desire for “escalation”

“Contrary to what the French extreme right, its megaphones and its broadcasts claim, Algeria is in no way immersed in a logic of escalation, overcoming or humiliation,” responded the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“The vengeful and hateful far-right, as well as their certified heralds within the French government, are currently leading a campaign of disinformation, even mystification, against Algeria,” Algiers denounces.

In addition to “Doualemn”, four other Algerian influencers and a French-Algerian are the subject of proceedings in France for inciting hatred, often against opponents of the Algerian Government, in a context of diplomatic tensions between Paris and Algiers.
