Tropical Storm Nicole has strengthened. Formed in the Caribbean, the depression is now classified as a category 1 hurricane as of Thursday by the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) and is approaching the coast of Florida, USA.
“(L’ouragan) Nicole contributes to strong sales, a wave of tempête et des important averses, alors qu’il approche de la côte est de Floride”, met in garde le NHC dans un point publié ce jeudi matin à 5h (heure French).
“Radar images taken from Miami and Melbourne show the eye of the hurricane moving from Grand Bahama Island toward the east coast of Florida,” the center said.
Winds up to 120 km/h
Winds of 93 km / h have already been registered at the level of the island of Grand Bahama on Wednesday night in the United States and gusts of “up to 120 km / h” are expected, according to the center.
The NHS expects the hurricane to make landfall in the United States early Thursday morning. Heavy rain and flooding are expected.
“Don’t look at Nicole’s exact path,” the hurricane center warns. “This is a big storm. (…) Its effects will affect much of the Florida panhandle and the southeastern United States.”
Due to this exceptional phenomenon, the takeoff of NASA’s new Artemis 1 rocket to the Moon has been postponed again for November 16, the US space agency announced on Tuesday.
