Kiev said on Friday that Ukrainian troops had entered the southern city of Kherson after Russia announced it would withdraw its troops to defensive positions on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River.
“Kherson is returning to Ukrainian control and units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are moving into the city,” Ukraine’s defense ministry said on social media.
“The retreat routes of the Russian invaders are under the control of the Ukrainian army. Any attempt to oppose the armed forces of Ukraine will be prevented,” says Kiev.
In the note released on social networks, the intelligence services of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry say that the Russian army must surrender “immediately”.
Images and videos are also starting to appear on social networks showing Ukrainian soldiers being received by the people of the city of Kherson.
Center of Kherson at the moment.
The locals chant ZSU (Ukrainian Armed Forces) and cheer our warriors.
Imagine all the emotions in that square!
Our soldiers report that they had to slow down their advance because they are hugged and kissed so often. pic.twitter.com/aKEWsOPJM5
