The world population dépasse ce mardi les 8 billions d’inhabitants, according to the official estimation of United Nations, who and voit “un important jalon du développement humain” et un rappel, en pleine COP27, de “notre responsabilité partagée de prendre soin de our planet”.
For the UN, “this unprecedented growth” – there were 2,500 million inhabitants in 1950 – is the result of “a gradual increase in life span thanks to advances in public health, nutrition, personal hygiene and medicine.”
But population growth also poses formidable challenges for the poorest countries, where it is concentrated.
