Tehran calls Germany’s attitude provocative

Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday described German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s critical attitude toward the Islamic Republic of Iran as “interventionist, provocative and undiplomatic”.

Ministry spokesman Nasser Kananí assured that, in terms of human rights, Iran has always been based on the “principle of responsibility” and defends human dignity and the oppressed, while Germany has always acted irresponsibly.

Berlin “shirks its international responsibility to respect the sovereignty of countries and hosts terrorist groups and separatists of the Islamic Republic of Iran and takes a dual and selective approach to the crimes of the Zionist regime (Israel), while presenting itself as a defender of rights,” he said.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Saturday called for new EU-wide sanctions against Iran in response to the crackdown on peaceful demonstrations with the supply of drones to Russia to attack civilian targets in Ukraine.

The Iranian spokesman added that “some protesters have unfortunately turned human rights into political games and forgotten their dark record against the honorable and resilient people of Iran.”

Nasser Kananí warned Berlin about this “the destruction of historic ties has long-term consequences” and advised German authorities to “restore rationality in the sphere of ties and avoid further turbulence in relations”.

He also indicated that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s human rights demands to the German authorities contain a long list and that it is Germany that must speak responsibly about its past actions.

In this sense, Nasser Kananí said that Germany supported the regime in Baghdad during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) and also the sanctions imposed on Iran, after the withdrawal of the United States of America (US) from the nuclear deal in 2018 .

The Iranian diplomat also criticized Berlin’s “silence” and lack of condemnation regarding the “terrorist attack on Shahcheragh’s mausoleum” in the city of Shiraz, which took place on Oct. 26.

“Respect and mutual benefits are the only way to sustainable cooperation,” recalls Nasser Kananí.
