Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the European Union (EU) economy sector reached 905 million tons in the second quarter of the year, 3% more than in the same period, according to Eurostat.
According to data from the EU statistical service, between April and June, the sectors responsible for the highest GHG emissions were production (23%), electricity and gas supply (19%), households (17%), the transportation and storage (14%). ) and agriculture (13%).
Eurostat estimates that this rise is related to the effect of the economic recovery, extrapolated from the growth of the Gross Domestic Product, after the sharp drop in activity caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
