Other affected towns

Air defense warning sirens sounded in Ukraine shortly before 15:30 (13:30 GMT). A few minutes later, explosions were heard in Kyiv, Lviv (west) and Kharkiv (northeast). Following these attacks, electricity was cut off in several regions of the country, Ukrainian authorities said.

Russian attacks hit critical infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine on Tuesday, also causing power outages, according to local and regional authorities.

In Rivné (west), the mayor, Oleksandre Tretyak, denounced on social networks “a strike at an essential site”, without giving further details. “The city is partly without electricity,” he lamented. The same situation in the city of Kremenchuk, in central Ukraine, where the city council deplored “a strike on critical infrastructure near (the city).” Khmelnytsky, in the center, also received “two blows”, announced the regional governor, Serguï Gamaliï.

Four days since the withdrawal from Kherson

Previous attacks targeting the Ukrainian capital date back to October 10 and 17, targeting mainly, as in other parts of the country, the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, to deprive the population of electricity as winter approached. .

At the time, Moscow justified these “massive” attacks by the partial destruction of the bridge linking Russia to the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Moscow in 2014.

This time, the attacks targeted Kyiv four days after the humiliating withdrawal of Russian forces from the northern Kherson region, including its namesake capital, after almost nine months of occupation.
