Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of firing missiles at NATO member Poland on Tuesday, calling the alleged, yet unconfirmed attack “a very significant escalation.”
“Today Russian missiles hit Poland, the territory of an allied country. People were killed,” Zelensky said in an address to the nation. “This is a very important escalation. We must act,” added the Ukrainian president, whose country is not a NATO member.
He also expressed his condolences to his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda by phone on Tuesday when Polish authorities confirmed that there had been an explosion killing two.
“We express condolences on the death of Polish citizens who were victims of Russian missile terrorism. We have exchanged available information and are in the process of clarifying all the facts. Ukraine, Poland, the whole of Europe and the world must be fully protected from terrorist Russia. the Ukrainian president said in a tweet in English.
