NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg is scheduled to hold an “emergency meeting” with NATO ambassadors on Wednesday, according to a spokeswoman.
Poland, which shares a border with Ukraine, invaded by Russia on February 24, is a member of NATO and some 10,000 US troops are in the country.
The White House has announced that Joe Biden spoke by phone with Jens Stoltenberg and his Polish counterpart. And his secretary of state, Antony Blinken, discussed with his Polish counterparts Zbigniew Rau and the Ukrainian Dmytro Kouleba.
“We are committed to staying closely coordinated in the coming days as the investigation progresses and we determine the appropriate next steps,” Antony Blinken said from Bali.
Paris, London and Berlin, among others, assured Warsaw of their support, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his “condolences for the death of Polish citizens who were victims of Russian missile terror.”
