A new case of police violence that moves Americans. Victor Pérez, a young 17 -year -old girl who lives in Pocatello in Idaho, was a victim of serious injuries in the bullet after shooting by the police on Saturday, April 5.
The teenager was hospitalized in a critical condition and was in a coma on Thursday, according to CBS News. He also had to undergo an amputation of his leg.
Nine bullets in the body
The events took place in the Garden of the Victor Pérez family. In a video filmed by a witness and broadcast by the Associated Press agency, we see the teenager, visibly disoriented, stirring a knife while a woman tries to disarm it with a stick.
Then comes a patrol of four police officers, three of whom are armed with guns and another of a rifle. From the street, placed behind the garden fence, they order Victor Pérez to release the knife. But the child gets up and addresses the agents, who immediately shoot him. Nine bullets have arrived in Victor Pérez.
The police had been warned by the son of a mechanic installed not far from the garden where the drama took place. Without knowing Victor Pérez, he had declared the 911 operator, the emergency number, that the autistic young man “seemed quite drunk.”
“They shot to kill”
The drama has angered the child’s family. “The police have practically talked to anyone,” said Ana Vázquez, his aunt. “They simply said ‘back and shot to kill.”
Only 12 seconds separate the moment when the police leave their vehicle and the first shots on Victor Pérez, says Associated Press.
According to Ana Vázquez, the teenager was not dangerous. “He has the brain of a small child of about 5 years. He is disabled. He can barely walk. People here can tell you,” he told a local channel. Even if it can happen, “we always manage to control it,” he added.
The 16 -year -old victim’s sister would have shouted the police not to shoot them that it was “special”, even according to Victor’s aunt.
In a video statement published on the Facebook page of the Pocatello Police Department on Monday, his boss Roger Schei said he understood “the emotion aroused by the shooting.” But he added that he wanted to “bring clarifications, share the information we have at this stage and remedy certain false ideas that have emerged.”
“We are also aware of the video that circulates online, which shows only an angle. To elaborate a complete table, it is necessary to carefully examine all the facts and tests,” he insisted, while an investigation is being carried out.
The four officers involved in the shooting were immediately placed on administrative license according to the city’s policy, said the mayor of Pocatello, Brian Blad, in a statement.
