Five people are attacked by an investigation because it is suspected that they have sold damaged meat in a food distribution store in Mallorca, Spain, said local newspaper Mallorca on Thursday, April 3.
It is suspected that the employees of the grocery store have cut the external pieces of the meat and had been washed with bleach to hide the smell, before putting it on sale. For its part, the administrative staff would have changed the standard numbers to extend the retention period of the products sold.
231 kilos of seized food
As part of an operation, called “Exspiratum”, the Civil Guard (the Spanish National Gendarmerie), in collaboration with the General Management of Public Health of the Government of the Balearic Islands, has seized 231 kilos of inadequate foods for consumption, as well as several products made of expired meat.
The Civil Guard warns that the use of expired foods to manufacture meat products represents a serious and imminent risk to consumer health.
