The European Union will issue financial aid of 1.6 billion euros, extended until 2027, more than half of which intends to strengthen the Palestinian authority, the head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas announced Monday, April 14.
“We are strengthening our support for the Palestinian people. 1.6 billion euros until 2027 will help stabilize the West Bank and Gaza,” he said on the social network X.
Europeans want to strengthen the Palestinian authority as part of the solution of two states that defend, despite the opposition of Israel. The Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa is scheduled to meet with the ministers of the 27 on Monday to take stock of the situation, but also on the reforms claimed by the EU.
Call a high fire
Europeans announced last July 400 million euros in favor of the Palestinians, conditioning the release of their additional help to the reforms in the Palestinian authority.
“We are asking for governance, good governance. This is of the utmost importance, because we want to know how the Palestinian authority will rule not only the West Bank, but also to Gaza,” explained the European commissioner upstairs, and added that the first reforms, especially in the social field, had already been carried out.
Several European ministers have claimed a return to the high fire in Gaza, where the situation continues to deteriorate. “We must return to the fire, allow access without obstacles to humanitarian aid and release Hamas Hostages,” said Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.
France announced last week that it could recognize a Palestinian state “in June” on the occasion of a conference that will be located with Saudi Arabia at the United Nations in New York. She hopes that this decision will lead to Israel’s recognition for several countries, including Arab countries.
