Earlier, Russia said Tuesday’s strikes only reached Ukrainian territory, adding that the missile that exploded on Polish territory was fired by a defense system in kyiv.

“We want to underline that the high-precision strikes (on Tuesday) were carried out only against the territory of Ukraine, at a distance of more than 35 kilometers from the border with Poland,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The incident in Poland is being investigated by NATO, since it occurred on the territory of one of the countries of the Atlantic Alliance.

On Tuesday, shortly after the incident became known, the Ukrainian head of state assured that the explosion in Poland was caused by Russian missiles.

“What we have been warning for a long time has happened. Terror is not limited to our national borders. Russian missiles hit Poland,” the Ukrainian president said then.

Poland called an emergency meeting with NATO allies after announcing that a “Russian-made projectile” had landed on Polish territory near the Ukrainian border, killing two people.
